Nestor Engelke
Member and one of the founders of the group "North-7". Graduated from the Architectural Faculty of the Academy of Arts (St. Petersburg State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I. E. Repin). Works in the author's technique of "tree painting": the essence of the technique is that the artist uses an axe to cut down a drawing on a wooden surface that resembles a "reverse" relief. Engelke calls himself a "member of the Society of free Lumberjacks", and defines his works by the terms "proto—painting" and "protosculpture" - these words contain a desire for the origins of art, the search for which has become the business of all participants of the "North-7". Participant of the Manifesta Biennale-10 (2019). The works are in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp, the State Russian Museum, the Museum of Art of St. Petersburg, as well as in private collections.
